5 Tips to Manage Stress and Anxiety When You are Moving Your Home

What is the most stressful thing that you could face? Losing your loved one, or breaking up with your partner; or losing your job, or finding yourself in a financial burden? These would be the common answers. However, apart from these, moving your house is also often mentioned as one of the most stressful tasks or situations to handle.

Moving your house can bring with it a great level of anxiety, especially if it is your first home move. Having to cope with change, handling the packaging, deciding what to take along and whatnot, what time to start your home move, what checklist and timeline to follow, transfer of utilities, finding schools for your kids, and concern over what kind of neighborhood you are going to have at the new place; all these aspects have a great say and effect on the coming change you are going to experience.

Whether it is a move to another city nearby, or an international move to another country, like removals to France or any other region, there are several ways and techniques to handle and manage the stress effectively as detailed below:

    1. Give Yourself Plenty of Time

While you may count one week as the ideal time to pack, move and de-pack at the new place, the actual process could take more than that including mentally preparing yourself and your family for the move. Start one month early, allotting one task each day, which will also mean easy preparation and not much exhaustion.

    2. Organise

Organizing does take a bit of time as well as planning. You not only have to decide on what items to take along with you but also have to decide on what to throw, donate or put for sale. Have plenty of time at your hands for this. Start early with de-cluttering. Imagine and assess your life at the new place, and pack specific to that requirement only. Make sure that not only do your household items have to be organized, but your utility connections, etc. have to be managed accordingly.

    3. Research on New Location

What lifestyle you can expect at the new place? How much you will have to take for legal processes at the new place? How long does it take to walk up to the school that you have sorted for your kid? All the aspects related to your life at the new location should be researched upon, which will definitely work towards decreasing anxiety.

    4. Follow Packing Tips

Right from packing each room item separately in labelled bags, to having separate bags for essentials, to keeping valuable and important things with you in a bag while on the move, there are several packing tips that you need to know and follow, rather than being random. It helps to calm your mind into knowing what needs to be done and how.

    5. Be Kind and Easy

Packing and etc., all things related to moving do cause a bit more physical effort and it is obvious that you will feel a bit tired. But it is all usual, and you don’t have to force yourself unnecessarily into everything. Plan everything upfront, have full time for eating, resting, and talking to other daily things.

Get help from your friends, relatives when needed. Use a checklist so that you are in the know-how of what needs to be done and how much you have covered. Moving can be daunting, but not when you prepare yourself mentally and plan well for the move, whether it is a local move or an international move like removals to Spain, or any other country.
