Straightforward Removals to Ghent from the UK
Moving from the UK to Ghent involves more than simply transporting your belongings from one address to another. Our experienced removal teams manage the journey carefully from collection through to delivery, using secure transport and appropriate protective equipment to keep your furniture and personal possessions safe in transit.
Every move is different, so our quotations are based on your actual volume, property access and preferred moving dates. We can accommodate anything from smaller part-load consignments to complete household moves, with a professional packing service also available if required.
As Ghent is in Belgium, household goods arriving from the UK must complete EU customs formalities. If you are transferring your normal residence to Belgium, you may be eligible for relief from import VAT and customs duty, subject to the relevant conditions. We can guide you through the removal paperwork required and help ensure everything is prepared before your goods begin their journey.

What Our Customers Say About Us.
Why Choose Ghent and Its Surrounding Areas?
Ghent offers an attractive balance between historic city living and the more relaxed atmosphere of a smaller European city. It is one of Belgium’s largest cities, yet its compact centre, canals, green spaces and distinct residential neighbourhoods give it a very different feel from Brussels or Antwerp. For people relocating from the UK, Ghent combines good employment opportunities and international connections with a high quality of everyday life.
Popular Areas
The historic centre of Ghent is particularly attractive for anyone wanting to be within walking distance of restaurants, shops, cafés and many of the city’s best-known landmarks. Character properties and apartments overlooking the canals can be highly desirable, although older buildings and restricted streets can make removal access more challenging.
Patershol is one of Ghent’s most distinctive quarters, with narrow medieval streets, historic buildings and a concentration of restaurants. It offers plenty of character but requires careful planning when delivering larger quantities of furniture because vehicle access and parking can be limited.
Sint-Pieters is popular with commuters and professionals, particularly because of its proximity to Gent-Sint-Pieters railway station. Stationsbuurt and nearby residential districts provide convenient connections while remaining within easy reach of the centre.
Families looking for more space often consider areas such as Sint-Amandsberg, Gentbrugge and Mariakerke, where there is a greater mixture of family houses, gardens and quieter residential streets. Moving slightly further outside the centre can provide significantly more space while still allowing straightforward access into Ghent.
Employment and International Community
Ghent has a diverse economy covering technology, biotechnology, manufacturing, logistics, education and professional services. The Port of Ghent, now part of North Sea Port, is an important industrial and logistics centre and connects the city economically with the Netherlands and wider European markets.
Ghent University is another major influence on the city. Its large student and research community gives Ghent a younger and more international character than its historic surroundings might suggest.
Dutch is the principal language, as Ghent is located in the Flemish Region of Belgium. English is widely understood, particularly among younger residents, students and within international workplaces, although learning some Dutch can be useful for everyday life.
Schools and Family Life
Ghent is particularly appealing to families who want the facilities of a substantial city without the scale and congestion of a larger capital. There are numerous schools throughout the city and surrounding municipalities, together with childcare facilities and higher-education opportunities.
The city also provides plenty of outdoor space. Citadelpark is close to the centre, while the wider Ghent area offers parks, waterways and cycling routes that make it relatively easy to escape the busier urban areas.
Restaurants, Culture and Social Life
Ghent has a lively restaurant, café and bar scene centred around areas such as Korenmarkt, Graslei, Vrijdagmarkt and Patershol. The large student population helps keep the city active throughout the year, while its historic centre provides a striking setting for restaurants, terraces and traditional Belgian cafés.
The city is known for landmarks including Gravensteen Castle, the medieval waterfront along Graslei and Korenlei, and the towers that dominate its historic skyline. Ghent also has museums, theatres, music venues and regular festivals, giving new residents plenty to explore beyond the main tourist areas.
Transport and Connections
Ghent is well positioned between Brussels and the Belgian coast, with excellent motorway and rail connections. Brussels, Antwerp and Bruges can all be reached relatively easily, making Ghent a practical base for people whose work involves travelling around Belgium.
Gent-Sint-Pieters is a major railway hub, providing frequent services across the country and connections towards international rail routes. Brussels Airport can also be reached without needing to live in the capital.
Moving to Ghent from the UK
Ghent’s historic layout means access needs particular consideration when planning a removal. Parts of the centre operate with restricted vehicle access, while pedestrian areas, narrow streets, canals and limited parking can make delivery more complicated than in the suburbs.
Apartments and older townhouses may also involve stairs, small lifts or restricted loading space. We recommend providing as much information as possible about your Ghent property before collection so that vehicle access and unloading can be properly planned.
Outside the historic centre, access is generally more straightforward. For people moving from the UK, Ghent provides an appealing combination of beautiful surroundings, strong transport connections, employment opportunities and residential areas suitable for everything from city-centre apartment living to a larger family home.
Our Removal Services
Our removal services include dedicated vehicles and flexible part-load groupage options, allowing us to provide the right service for anything from a few boxes to a complete household move.
Dedicated Luton Van
Ideal for: Apartments, student relocations and smaller household moves.
Our dedicated Luton vans offer approximately 18m³ of loading space with a payload of around 1,000kg, making them an ideal option for smaller household removals. Our standard service includes an experienced driver who assists with loading and unloading, with a second removal porter available where required.
As the vehicle is dedicated solely to your move, your belongings remain on the same van from collection through to delivery, with no transhipping or sharing of vehicle space with other customers.
Their smaller size makes Luton vans particularly useful for city and town moves, apartments and properties where access may be difficult for larger removal vehicles. Protective removal blankets and securing straps are used to protect and secure your belongings throughout the journey.
Dedicated 7.5 Tonne Removal Truck
Ideal for: 2–3 bedroom family homes and medium-sized household removals.
Our dedicated 7.5 tonne removal trucks provide approximately 33m³ of loading space with a payload of around 3,000kg, making them well suited to medium-sized household removals where a Luton van doesn’t provide sufficient capacity.
The vehicle is reserved solely for your removal, with your belongings remaining on the same truck from collection through to delivery. There is no transhipping or sharing of vehicle space with other customers, helping reduce unnecessary handling during the journey.
Professional loading and unloading assistance is included, with additional crew members available where required. The 7.5 tonne truck provides considerably more capacity than a Luton while still being a practical option for many residential locations where access for a larger 18 tonne vehicle may be more difficult.
Dedicated 18 Tonne Removal Truck
Ideal for: Large family homes and complete household relocations.
For larger household removals, our dedicated 18 tonne removal trucks provide approximately 55m³ of loading space with payloads of up to 9,000kg, making them particularly suitable for substantial moves involving larger quantities of furniture, appliances, boxes and personal belongings.
The truck is reserved exclusively for your removal, with your belongings remaining on the same vehicle from collection through to delivery, without being transferred or combined with other customers’ consignments.
Professional loading and unloading is included, with the appropriate removal crew arranged according to the size and requirements of your move. Access is particularly important with a vehicle of this size, so we’ll assess this in advance and can discuss alternative vehicle or shuttle arrangements where direct access isn’t possible.
Dedicated Vehicle Service
A dedicated removal vehicle provides the most direct and flexible option for moving your belongings. Depending on the size and weight of your move, we can provide a Luton van, 7.5 tonne truck or larger 18 tonne removal vehicle reserved exclusively for your relocation.
Your belongings remain on the same vehicle from collection through to delivery, with no transhipping or consolidation with other customers’ goods. This reduces unnecessary handling and gives us greater flexibility when arranging collection, transit and delivery around your requirements.
Dedicated removals can also provide faster transit times than groupage because the vehicle is travelling specifically for your move rather than coordinating several customers’ collections and deliveries along the route.
This service is particularly suitable for customers working to fixed dates, relocating for employment, moving larger households or simply wanting a direct door-to-door service with greater control over their collection and delivery schedule.
Part Load & Groupage
Our part-load and groupage removals provide a more economical alternative to a dedicated vehicle and can accommodate anything from a few boxes and individual pieces of furniture through to larger or complete household removals.
By combining several customers’ consignments travelling along similar routes, transport costs can be shared between the different moves. This can significantly reduce the cost compared with reserving an entire vehicle, particularly where collection and delivery dates are flexible.
We’ll coordinate your removal with other consignments travelling in the same direction and provide an estimated collection and delivery schedule. Your belongings are carefully protected, clearly identified and handled professionally throughout the journey.
Groupage isn’t limited to small moves. It can also be a cost-effective option for larger household removals where you don’t require a vehicle exclusively for your belongings and can offer some flexibility with your moving dates.
Tailored to Your Move
Every removal is different, which is why we tailor the service around your individual requirements rather than offering a one-size-fits-all package.
We’ll consider the volume and weight of your belongings, access at collection and delivery, your preferred dates and the level of assistance required before recommending the most appropriate vehicle and service. This could be a dedicated Luton van, 7.5 tonne or 18 tonne truck, or a more economical part-load and groupage service.
We can also arrange professional packing, export wrapping and additional loading or unloading assistance where required. Secure short- or long-term storage can be incorporated into your removal if your collection and delivery dates don’t coincide.
Whether you’re moving a few personal belongings or the contents of a complete family home, we’ll build the service around your move and provide a quotation based on your particular requirements.
Our Removals Process
-
The Key Is Establishing the Volume
The first step is establishing how much you have to move. You can send us a list of the items, photographs or a WhatsApp video, and we’ll use this to assess the volume. If you already know the approximate volume or the type of removal vehicle you require, we can quote on that basis instead.
We’ll also need to know where you’re moving from and to, along with any important access information at either property. This might include restricted parking, narrow roads, stairs, lifts or anything else that could affect the collection or delivery.
Once we understand your move, we’ll prepare a clear quotation based on the service you need and work with you to arrange suitable collection and delivery dates. Where customs procedures are required, we’ll advise you on the documents we need from you and take care of the customs work associated with your removal.
Once everything is arranged, you can leave the rest to us. Our team will take care of the collection, customs procedures where required, secure transport and delivery of your belongings, keeping you informed throughout and making the whole process as straightforward as possible.

Key Considerations When Moving Abroad
-
Documents, Dates and Planning Ahead
When moving your belongings abroad, it is important to start gathering the documents that may be required for customs clearance. Requirements vary between countries and according to your individual circumstances, but commonly requested documents can include a copy of your passport, a detailed packing list, proof of your previous residence and evidence of your new residence abroad.
As a useful starting point, we recommend having proof of residence covering the previous 12 months, details of your new address and a clear inventory of the household goods you are moving. Additional documents may be required depending on the destination and whether you are transferring your normal residence. Your move manager will advise you on the documentation required for your particular move and help you through the customs process.
It is also worth establishing your moving dates as early as possible. Think about the earliest date your belongings will be ready for collection, the latest date you need to leave your current property and the earliest date you can receive your belongings at your new home. This helps us plan the most suitable collection and delivery schedule.
If there is a gap between leaving one property and gaining access to the next, you may need storage as part of your move. Let us know when discussing your requirements and we can take this into account when planning your removal.

Removals to Ghent FAQs
How do you move belongings from the UK to Ghent?
We collect directly from your UK address and transport your belongings by road to Ghent. Depending on the size of your move and your preferred dates, you can choose between our part-load groupage service and a dedicated vehicle reserved specifically for your move.
How long does a dedicated removal to Ghent take?
Ghent is well positioned for removals arriving through the Channel ports, with good motorway connections into Belgium. Dedicated vehicles can travel directly towards Ghent once the crossing and customs formalities are complete. Exact timings depend on your UK collection point, customs clearance, crossing schedules and permitted driver hours.
Do you offer part-load removals to Ghent?
Yes. Part loads are a cost-effective option for smaller moves where you have some flexibility with collection and delivery dates. Your belongings travel securely alongside other customers’ consignments heading towards Belgium or nearby European destinations.
What customs paperwork is required when moving to Ghent?
Household goods entering Belgium from Great Britain require customs clearance. If you are transferring your normal residence to Belgium, you may qualify for relief from import VAT and customs duty, subject to meeting the applicable conditions. We can guide you through the removal documentation required before collection.
Are there vehicle restrictions in central Ghent?
Yes. Ghent has an extensive low-traffic area in the city centre, and vehicle access to some streets is controlled. Historic streets, pedestrian areas and limited parking can also affect where a removal vehicle can stop. It is important that we know the exact delivery address in advance so access can be checked and the move planned accordingly.
Can you deliver to apartments in Ghent’s historic centre?
Yes, but access needs careful consideration. Many central properties are older buildings where lifts may be small or unavailable, staircases can be narrow and parking immediately outside may not be possible. Providing the floor level, lift details and information about parking helps us plan the delivery correctly.
Do you cover areas outside central Ghent?
Yes. We cover the wider Ghent area, including Sint-Amandsberg, Gentbrugge, Mariakerke and other surrounding residential districts. We can also deliver to destinations throughout East Flanders and elsewhere in Belgium.
Is a part load or dedicated vehicle better for a move to Ghent?
For a few items or a smaller household move, part loading will generally be the more economical option if your dates are flexible. A dedicated vehicle is better suited to larger moves, fixed dates or customers who want the most direct possible journey from the UK to Ghent.
Can you collect for a Ghent removal from anywhere in the UK?
Yes. We arrange collections throughout England, Scotland and Wales. Your belongings are collected directly from your property, so you do not need to transport them to a depot before the European journey begins.
Can you arrange removals from Ghent back to the UK?
Yes. We provide removals from Ghent to the UK as well as outbound services to Belgium. Part-load and dedicated options are available, and we can advise on the customs paperwork required when bringing household belongings back into the UK.
