Professional Removals to Croatia: Making Your Move Easier

Croatia offers a varied choice of destinations for people relocating from the UK, from the capital Zagreb to historic coastal cities, Adriatic islands and quieter inland communities. Whether you’re moving for employment, retirement, family reasons or returning home after living in Britain, transporting an established household requires careful planning.

Zagreb is Croatia’s capital and largest city, as well as its principal business, employment and cultural centre. Split and Rijeka are important coastal cities, while destinations such as Zadar, Pula and Dubrovnik attract people looking for a lifestyle closer to the Adriatic.

Customers may also be relocating to smaller towns, rural properties or one of Croatia’s inhabited islands. The final destination and property access can therefore play an important part in deciding which removal vehicle and service will work best.

For Croatian nationals returning after living in Britain for a number of years, the scale of the move can be considerably larger than when they originally left. Furniture, appliances, boxes and possessions accumulated over time can turn a relatively simple return home into a complete international household relocation.

With depots throughout the UK and Europe, we can coordinate your move from anywhere in the UK to destinations throughout Croatia and elsewhere in Europe.

Types of Removals to Croatia

Every international relocation has different requirements. From smaller apartment moves to complete family households, we’ll recommend a suitable vehicle and service according to the volume and weight of your possessions, property access, moving dates and budget.

Dedicated Luton Van

Ideal for: Apartments and smaller household relocations.

Our dedicated Luton vans provide approximately 18m³ of loading capacity with a payload of around 1,000kg, making them a practical option for smaller UK to Croatia removals.

They are particularly suitable for apartment moves, employment relocations and customers transporting a more limited quantity of furniture, boxes and personal possessions.

An experienced driver assists with loading and unloading as part of the standard service, while an additional removal porter can be arranged where required.

Because the van is allocated solely to your relocation, your belongings remain aboard the same vehicle between collection in the UK and delivery in Croatia. Your possessions don’t share loading space with another customer’s consignment.

The smaller dimensions of a Luton can also provide useful flexibility when accessing residential streets or properties where larger removal vehicles would be difficult to accommodate.

Professional removal blankets and appropriate securing equipment are used to help protect your belongings throughout transportation.

Important Considerations When Moving to Croatia

  • Visa and Residence Requirements:

British citizens can generally visit Croatia and the rest of the Schengen area without a visa for up to 90 days in any 180-day period. If you’re relocating to Croatia for longer than this and aren’t protected by the Withdrawal Agreement, you’ll need to establish the appropriate Croatian residence arrangements for your circumstances.

  • Customs Procedures:

Household belongings transported from Great Britain to Croatia enter the EU from a non-EU country and require the appropriate customs formalities. People transferring their normal residence to Croatia may qualify for relief from customs duty and VAT on eligible personal belongings when the applicable conditions are satisfied.

  • Transfer of Residence Relief:

Croatian government guidance states that qualifying applicants must generally have lived outside the EU for at least 12 consecutive months before moving. Eligible household belongings must generally have been owned and used in the previous household for at least six months before the move and be intended for the same purpose at the new residence in Croatia.

  • Healthcare:

Anyone relocating permanently should establish the healthcare and insurance arrangements that apply to their individual circumstances. Croatia operates a compulsory health insurance system through the Croatian Health Insurance Fund (HZZO), with requirements depending on factors including residence and employment status.

  • Employment and Work:

British citizens who don’t have rights under the Withdrawal Agreement are generally treated as third-country nationals. If you’re moving to Croatia for employment, establish which residence and work authorisation applies to your circumstances before starting work.

  • Official Documentation:

Keep passports, residence documentation, employment information, property or tenancy records and customs paperwork accessible throughout your relocation rather than packing important documents with your household belongings.

Croatian Removals FAQs

Potentially.

Croatian government guidance allows transfer-of-residence relief to be claimed on qualifying household belongings imported before you physically relocate, provided the applicable conditions are met.

Where this arrangement is used, you generally need to establish your residence in Croatia within six months of the household goods being released into free circulation.

This can be useful where your property and removal dates don’t align exactly, although the customs arrangements should be established before the shipment takes place.
